1. What Data We Collect
Klosr is a local-first app. This means most of your data never leaves your device.
Data stored on your phone
When you use Klosr, we store the following information locally on your device using AsyncStorage:
- Notes: The text you write in each note
- Doodles and drawings: Any sketches or marks you add on top of notes
- Checklists: Items you tuck under notes
- Contact information: Names and phone numbers of people you add to your circle
- Profile photos: Images stored as base64 data locally (not uploaded)
- Note metadata: Timestamps, pinned status, and other organizational info
This data lives only on your phone. We never see it, and you have full control to delete it whenever you want.
Data you share with us
If you contact Klosr with questions or feedback, you may share:
- Your email address (if you choose to include it)
- Your message content
- Device information you voluntarily provide for support
This is only collected if you reach out to us. You choose what you share.
2. How We Handle SMS & Invites
Klosr opens the native Messages app on your phone to send invites and note previews. We do not:
- Send SMS on your behalf from our servers
- Store or transmit phone numbers to our servers
- Have access to your message threads
- Intercept or see the messages you send
When you open Klosr to "text" a note or invite, it's the same as you manually opening Messages and typing. The OS handles everything; we're just pointing you there.
3. Cloud Sync (Future Feature)
Coming soon: Klosr plans to add cloud sync to help you access your notes across devices.
When cloud sync launches, here's what you should know:
- Optional: You choose whether to enable it. Local-only will always be an option.
- Encrypted: Data in transit will be encrypted. We're evaluating CloudKit (Apple's system) or Supabase for storage.
- Your control: You can delete synced data on request and disable sync anytime.
- Privacy-first: We will not use your notes for any purpose other than syncing and showing them back to you.
Exact details will be shared when the feature launches. We'll update this policy then.
4. What We Don't Do
- No analytics: We don't track how you use Klosr, which features you use, or when you use them.
- No crash reporting: If the app crashes, we don't automatically send us error logs or crash data.
- No third-party SDKs: Beyond Expo (which powers the app framework), we don't integrate tracking, analytics, or advertising libraries.
- No ads: Klosr has no ads and never will.
- No data selling: We will never sell, trade, or share your data with marketers or data brokers.
- No AI training: Your notes are never used to train machine learning models.
5. Data Retention
- On-device data: Your notes, checklists, and contact info stay on your phone until you delete them. We have no copy.
- Cloud data (when available): Synced data persists in the cloud until you request deletion. You can delete individual notes, and you can clear all synced data in settings.
- Support emails: If you contact us, we keep emails for up to 1 year for support purposes, then delete them.
6. Children's Privacy
Klosr is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
Parents or guardians who believe a child has shared information with us can contact us at the email below.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: See what data we have about you (which is very little, since most stays on your phone)
- Delete: Request deletion of any data you've shared with us
- Port: Export your notes and data in a standard format
- Opt-out: Decline any optional features like cloud sync
To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below.
8. Security
Klosr takes security seriously:
- On-device encryption: All local data is stored securely on your phone using standard iOS/Android protections.
- In-transit encryption: If and when cloud sync launches, data will be encrypted during transfer.
- No passwords stored: We don't store passwords for Klosr accounts because there are no accounts. You own your data.
- No server logins: There's no Klosr account to compromise because you don't have one.
That said, no security is perfect. If you believe your data has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
9. Third-Party Services
Klosr uses:
- Expo: The framework that powers Klosr. Expo's privacy policy applies to their services. See Expo's privacy policy
- Apple/Google: Your OS vendor handles device security and permissions. Their privacy policies apply.
- Messages app: When you send an invite or note, Apple's or Google's Messages app handles it.
We don't use other third-party analytics, ads, or tracking services.
10. Policy Updates
Klosr is a young product. If this privacy policy changes, we will:
- Update the date at the top of this page
- Notify you in the app if the change affects how we handle your data
- Never reduce your privacy protections without your consent
